Khlong Toei Model

Behavioral motivation societal studies of B2C and B2B communities and drop-off modules monitoring during implementing digitally integrated circular infrastructure in Mega City “AEPW-Thai PPP Bangkok Project” Thailand Public Private Partnership for Plastic and Waste Management (Khlong Toei Model)

To motivate behavior change for the circular economy, the Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University is working with Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), the Public Private Partnership for Plastic and Waste Management (PPP Plastic), and the Federal of Thai Industry (FTI) on Behavioral motivation societal studies of B2C and B2B communities and drop-off modules monitoring during implementing digitally integrated circular infrastructure in Mega City “AEPW-Thai PPP Bangkok Project” Thailand Public Private Partnership for Plastic and Waste Management (Khlong Toei Model) to find innovative ways to help address economic, social, and environmental issues by changing plastic waste into a valuable resource that builds economic value. This project implements the plastic waste management by engaging all stakeholders to embrace and implement Circular Economy which starts from people behavior change through education, improve waste segregation and management system, and provide value added channel for all plastic waste to be reused or recycled efficiently. However, the key to success in waste management requires wide-ranging cooperation by many sectors, including producers, consumers, the private sector, and society, to build an efficient waste management mechanism. This aims to pilot circular economy concept by integrating circular infrastructure into a metropolitan city or Mega city like Bangkok and this include system models to accommodate both the collect back or recycled/ non recycle plastics using new drop-off point infrastructure and the handling of related parts of total wastes management. Khlong Toei, a medium size district of Bangkok, was selected to study the integration of new circular infrastructure where pre-sorting behavior could be motivated through digitally exchange and convenient benefits. This project works closely with different communities in Klong Toei i.e., Lot 4-5-6, Ban Kluay, Wat Khlongtoey Nai 1, and Wat Khlongtoey Nai 2, different segments of all communities i.e., home developer, community, organization building and hub, and all actors in the value chain will be studied if the concept of digitally integrated collection systems will be applied to the existing waste management infrastructure. Both door-2-door and drop-off points of selected sites will be studied, monitored, tested and analyzed for motivations towards pre-sorting habits where high quality of recycled materials will be obtained. New business models will be recommended in association with logistic collection, on-site waste management, digital enabler, aggregation hub management and more based on innovative city-solution concepts.
